Dad's Volga
The head of the family dies of a heart attack. He left behind a secret: he has another child with another woman. The wife ignores this fact at first, but the daughter certainly wants to get to know her stepbrother, so both get into dad's Volga and go in search of a guy. The life-affirming story that takes place during the fall resonates strongly with the warmth outside, so there is every chance that it will be a feel good movie.
"Home";
The painting, originally called Evge, artfully combines the personal and the collective. The generational conflict that unfolds between father and son is demonstrated against the background of a constant conflict of cultures or rather even prejudices that abound in Ukrainian society. Aliev chooses a very "prickly" language, which does not smooth out the problems of the domestic society at all, unlike the artificial "patriotic" discourse, which constructs the desired world full of understanding and mutual support. At the same time, the director and screenwriter does not leave the limits of the gray zone - "Home" constantly demonstrates the lace of intercultural relations, from positive to sharply negative. One could criticize Nariman for deliberately focusing on the problems of Ukrainian life, but it is better to take the film as an additional reminder of what needs to be worked on...
However, despite the great idea, the performance in "Home" sometimes limps on both legs, demonstrating the problems of our cinema. And if some of the script blunders and excessive symbolism in the frame can be attributed to the debut, then the actors' performance once again highlights the acute shortage of high-quality shots. This is especially noticeable against the background of the wonderful performance by Akhtem Seitablaev and Viktor Zhdanov - most of the supporting actors speak Ukrainian very unnaturally and sometimes frankly crookedly, which is only emphasized by weak acting. However, it is worth noting the performance of Remzi Bilyalov in the role of Alim - despite the flaws, the young performer has a convincing image of a teenager who has to grow up quickly...
Homecoming not only raises topical issues and is not afraid to speak about them in complex language - it also shows the talent of Ukrainian directors/ screenwriters, which has been becoming more and more clearly visible on the national cultural map in recent years. Roman Bondarchuk, Marysia Nikityuk, Tonya Noyabreva, Nariman Aliyev and Antonio Lukich made a confident step in artistic full meter - a sufficient number of artists to start coming up with terms like "The Ukrainian New Wave" or "The New sincerity of Ukrainian cinema." And also to finally look at our cinema from a different angle.. The platform's enduring popularity, built over fourteen years, spans continents, captivating players in Africa, Asia, and Europe.
